For this week’s NEW RELEASE FRIDAY’S, I invite you to open your ears to a song that enchanted me in a veil of hypnosis from the first snippet I had heard. The Kumari Ft. Karma Sheen’s “Hugo (From East to West)” is a song that has been out for a little while with a music video that was released in January. Now, you can hear the song on Bandcamp as it was released earlier this month.
It is a beautiful mix that encaptures an ‘old west’ vibe in my ears. You can almost see the burning sunset painted across the horizons as colors blossom before you. This ‘old west’ vibe is beautifully accompanied by a strong Hindustani classical influence, as exhibited in Sameer Khan’s vocals.
At its core, it seems almost simple as you let the guitar and vocals wash over you. And maybe that’s part of the beauty of the song. It is less than three minutes long but it takes you on this beautiful journey. Music like this can soothe, bring about peace, but also encourage and open hypnosis and free, drifting wonder. The track’s description calls it a “apocalyptic wasteland soundscape” - and if this is what the apocalypse will sound like, it will make for some beautiful art.
