4th Dimensional Flowers - "Love/Time"

Writer's picture: Kim PoolKim Pool

At the crossroads of psychedelic, indie-rock, and general grooviness, you will find the band 4th Dimensional Flowers.

The Kansas City-based music group is composed of guitarist and vocalist Dylan Peace, bassist Gwen Heath, drummer Andy Wooden, and lead guitarist Isaac Samayee.

The band describes themselves as:

"The music of 4th Dimensional Flowers is a fresh reincarnation of Grunge/Alternative Rock, and poppy Midwest Shoegaze with an emphasis on crunchy, melodic guitars, bass so full you can bite right into it, and beats that'll get you dancing until you can't feel your legs! 4 Dimensional Flowers has played alongside other popular acts such as Brady Rowland and the Missile kids, Lucky dragon no. 5, MabKC, and Island Policy."

On December 28, 2024, the band released Love/Time as the first part of their upcoming Bi/Polar album.

"The Bi/Polar album is a unique blend of extreme emotions, made to represent what having bipolar depression feels like with major ups and downs, extreme genre/mood change," the band says. "Every song brings you just a smidgeon closer to insanity, and hopefully a better understanding of people with severe mental illness."

LP: How did the band get started? How did everyone join?

4DF: So we’ve had a couple different names/members: Dylan has been writing since he was a kid, his friend Gwen joined 2 years ago, and Andrew is the newest member replacing Dan Camino on drums.

LP: What are the origins behind the band name?

4DF: This project is really about looking at love through time, like watching flowers grow and decompose, how love decays and regrows from what remains.

LP:  Let’s break down the EP track by track

4DF: “Gum” is Dylan’s favorite on the EP, an emotional, bassy song about how love is like sugar, and too much of anything can drive you insane.

“Antifreeze” is Andrew’s favorite, representing the fallout of love, the inevitable comedown of life, and how hard you hit the ground but having the willpower to get back up and move on.

“Reptilez (Live from the KKFI’s Band Auction)” Gwen's favorite, we played live on-air for 90.1FM and this is their recording of that! We are working on a studio version of this as well but it's a nice little taste of what's to come.

LP: What was the writing/recording process like?

4DF: Dylan recorded these tracks in his bedroom over multiple years (besides the live version of “Reptilez”); he mixed, mastered, and published them.

LP: What’s next for the band?

4DF: We’re playing at the Replay on the 6th of February and there should be plenty more shows to come this year! Don't forget the rest of the album, to be released in small doses throughout this year; there’s so much more to come!!
