Earlier this month, Alex and the Wonderland "dug themselves out of a proverbial (and almost literal) grave" with the release of "Diggin' for You". The single reignites the band's spark of writing catchy songs as it sizzles with a suave attitude of London swagger.
The band released the single to build off of their success on the new music TV show "Lazy Lyrics" - where two bands compete to write a song in a week based on algorithm-generated lyrics. Alex and the Wonderland featured on the show's pilot and are the show's first winners. The band also played an original song to conclude the show. Yet, “Diggin’ for You” was not debuted until a few weeks later.
"Diggin' for You" launches the listener right into it. Instrumentally, it begins with a more 'chill' sound - relaxed but confident. The energy builds as the story unfolds:
"Diggin' for you" is a playful, fictional song about one lad's wishful romantic sparking of a girl he notices hanging on the local street. He soon realises she's actually a dealer of naughties, but undeterred, he pursues his aspirations by convincing her to spend the evening together. But will she reciprocate his lust, use him as a decoy for her extra-curricular work, or could it all be just a fantasy in his mind?...
The lyrics are clever and caught my attention as soon as I first heard the song. Written by Alex Wonderland and Soom T, it is an ode to late night lust and fascination. There is a fair share of London slang and charm in the delivery, too. It makes for a catchy song - one that from the first listen brought about intrigue and, after listening to it many more times since, it continues to be an electrifying pop-rock song. The music video is fun, too, with dazzling colors and effects that alternate between shots of Alex Wonderland displayed in trippy filters and a woman’s silhouette dancing, adding a more psychedelic element to the music.
If you are looking for your next summer banger, check out “Diggin’ for You”. I would be quite surprised if by the end of the song, you are not intrigued by the addicting instrumentals and the charm present. Give it a listen, and you may very well find yourself digging the music of Alex and the Wonderland. . .
