Teazers, a femme punk band from Kansas City, released their debut single "Lost in Translation" alongside a music video.
LP: How did the band get started? How did everyone join?
Teazers: In the fall of 2024, Macee started looking around for band members for a new femme punk project she had in mind. She reached out to Skye as they worked together on live music events in the past. After a few weeks of research and advice from friends and coworkers, Macee and Skye were introduced to Haddy. The three of them met for the first time over pizza at Providence By The Slice in Westport, and instantly connected over their desire for a femme punk band where the dynamic includes no set leader or main singer, with ideology that is centered around girlhood in current society.
LP: Who are you influenced by?
Teazers: The individual band members have a very eclectic taste in music, but some of their influences for the project are Bikini Kill, Hole, Mannequin Pussy, Amyl and the Sniffers, Veruca Salt, and The Runaways.
LP: Let’s talk about your debut single “Lost in Translation”. What made you want to release this song specifically as your welcome to the world?
Teazers: We chose this song to release as our debut single because it’s a good representation of the message we want to convey as a band and the basis this project was built upon. The idea for the music video showed up in Macee’s head as she was writing it, and since everything flowed so quickly, we saw it as a sign to dive in head first.
LP: What was the writing / recording process like?
Macee Lewis of Teazers: I wrote this song after a long stint of constantly feeling like everything I did was being taken out of context. When I post pictures of myself, or even how I dress and conduct myself, I feel like men often view it as my service to them… which in fact is the opposite.
LP: What was it like filming the music video? How long did it take? What inspired it?
Teazers: The music video shoot was a very fun experience. We pitched our idea to Zak Gorsuch, a longtime friend of Skye’s and a director in KC, and he gave us a fully fledged, very exciting plan for the video. We then recruited an incredible team of people to help out. The video was shot in a car garage owned by Fastlane Raceway in Blue Springs, MO. It was extremely DIY and the budget was almost nonexistent. We are incredibly grateful for the people who helped us out. Abby Marx, Graham Carrol, Ezra Howat, Chris Cepeda, Patrick Avila, Colin Witte, Joe Duffy. You guys rock!
