LP: Tell me about “One Man Show.” What were the writing & recording processes like?
ATM: The writing process is: we got these beats from Lil Heavn last year. Was really channeling into that ppl coming and going out of your life. And no matter at the end of the day, you just have yourself - hence 'one man show.' The recording was smooth with BLVCKLIGHT; we just knocked out the chorus and then the verse, really tried to bring that nostalgic ATM pop-punk vibe. Studio is always easy and convenient with BL.
BLVCKLIGHT: ATM wrote his verse and sent it to me and I liked it. We recorded his part, and I really didn’t have anything written at the time for my part; I wrote it as we recorded and actually threw in a couple inside jokes. It’s always fun recording with Aaron. He's a great friend of mine, so recording doesn’t feel like work and most of our tracks come naturally.
LP: Who are your influences individually?
BL: I don’t have a specific set of influences, I listen to most genres of music. For this particular song, I just listened to ATM’s part and moved in a way that I thought played off of him.
ATM: I'm influenced a lot by old pop-punk and some rappers. Sum 41, blink-182, The All-American Rejects, mgk, Mac Miller, Eminem and Joyner Lucas.
LP: What is your favorite thing about music?
ATM: How you can express your story through art and bringing together people from all walks of life. And being able to express what may be bottled up inside.
BL: My favorite thing about music if I could narrow it down to one thing would be creativity. It’s a realm where you can create the world you want, just like playing a video game or reading a book. It’s really a beautiful thing when taken to heart and that’s what I love most about music.
LP: If you wanted someone to get one thing from your music, what would it be?
BL: I can’t narrow it down to one thing but take each song as it is. As an artist, I bring a character to the table for each song or part of a song. Sometimes it reflects what is going on with me or something that has happened to me specifically; sometimes it reflects an emotion I am feeling or what the song makes me feel, and other times it is a story that may have nothing to do with me or how I feel. Take each song as it is and enjoy it for what it is. You may identify with it very strongly or it may not apply to you at all, but either way it is a story to be told and a lot of work went into telling that story. It’s art and meant to portray perspective.
ATM: That it's forever a grind. The improvement from my first song to now so much progress. That even you can do it. It's a great way to tell my story and express my walk of life. Hope someone can relate or be inspired.
