Misty Miller - "Tip of His Tongue" & "This Old Heart of Mine"

Updated: Jan 5, 2023

Misty Miller returns with two new singles ahead of the release of her next EP.

The first single “Tip of His Tongue” was released in January. Something that I have admired before in Miller’s music is the vulnerability in her lyrics. She does not refrain from being intimately honest at times in her music. To me, this adds an element of authenticity because when there is vulnerability in artwork, it becomes a vessel to observe more difficult emotions and connect with others. The lyrics of “Tip of His Tongue” deal with emotions from the end of a relationship - nostalgia, bittersweetness, but indifference and acceptance with hindsight. Musically, it reminds me of Miller’s previous release Home Recordings and Voodoo Sessions, as it is composed of Miller on guitar. A really nice addition comes from Haydn Wynn’s cello arrangement - makes me hopeful for more string arrangements on the EP, as it fits Miller’s voice so well.

“This Old Heart of Mine” sounds to be in a similar vein to Miller’s River Songs EP from 2020 - more country-folk and still filled with emotion. Vincent Davies’ backing vocals sound lovely with Miller’s. Instrumentally, it is similar to River Songs with lap steel guitar, acoustic guitar, tambourine, and a new welcome of a saxophone feature! It makes for a great song.

A third single titled “Boy” will be released Thursday, March 31st. I am looking forward to hearing it and the EP later this spring, as the singles already released share the characteristics I have admired and grown to expect in her music - honesty with emotion amidst a backdrop of folk and country beauty.
